About

History of the South Cobb Church of Christ

Although the South Cobb Church of Christ came into being on January 1, 1994, it has a long and rich history. The Liberty Hill and Clarkdale congregations, which began in 1865 and 1958 respectively, agreed to a merger in the fall of 1993. For the first few months the new congregation met at the Clarkdale building. Then for approximately one year the church worshiped at the Winkenhofer Funeral Home on Flint Hill Road in Austell. Growth was taking place even as we met in this temporary location.

Our first Sunday in the building we now occupy was July 9, 1995. Since that day we have steadily grown numerically and spiritually to over 200 strong, to the point that we need a presence on the World Wide Web.

Every church must have a vision of what it wants to be or it will die. We dream of always being a church that is faithful to the Lord and His inspired Word. Our dreams include both being a family that welcomes our brothers and sisters in the Lord regardless of skin color, ethnic background, or any other superficial differences. We firmly and joyfully accept the truth that all are one in Christ. Another dream is that we will reach out to our community by teaching the unsearchable riches of Christ even as we help the poor, feed the hungry, and clothe the naked. Most importantly, our aim is to make these things a reality, and not just dreams.

May God help us reach out and grow our family in Christ at South Cobb.
