The world today is doing all it can to weaken the faith of Christians and attack Christianity on a broad range of fronts. Satan is using the media to attack the values of Christians, trying to convince us that homosexuality and abortion are acceptable, and having sex with everyone up and down the street is right and acceptable as well. Language that would never have been repeated in public a few years ago is now being piped into our homes nightly. Acts of rudeness and barbarity are so commonplace that we don’t even get upset when we hear of them on the nightly news.

Evolution is taught, not as a theory, but as a fact in school and via the media in every way. Museums are constantly teaching that man got here through evolutionary means. The History Channel and Discovery Channel presuppose evolution’s truths, even though there are SO MANY faults with the system. The “unlearned” are those who still advocate God’s creation of the world, and of mankind, in six days.

And, the attacks also come in the form of documentaries about all of the so called “gospels” and “lost books of the Bible.” We don’t know, and can’t say for sure, that the Bible as we have it and read it today is the very word of God (so we are being told). We are told that it is the product of “evolutionary means,” written by fallible men who did not know the whole story. We are also told that the church (the Catholic church is the biggest “culprit”) did not allow these other “gospels” and “lost books” to get into the Bible because they did not agree with “accepted doctrine” of the church. Believing that the church informs doctrine, rather than the doctrine informing the church, we are called upon to question all of our firm beliefs in God, in His word, and in His Son.

Even Jesus has been attacked, as a Prophet (so say the Muslims) or as a teacher (so say so many in the world), but not the very Son of God as portrayed in the Bible. Jesus is a divisive person, because you can go out and say whatever you want to, but the moment that “the NAME” is mentioned, people automatically become defensive and turn the believer off. Perhaps it was his exclusivist statement when he said he was “the way, the truth and the life, and that no one can come to the Father but through him” (John 14:6) that has caused so much trouble. For the Christian, we must believe these words.

So, our faith is being assaulted on all fronts, and what has happened is that many Christians do not know what they believe or why they believe it. We dare not speak with certainty about anything, for if we do, we are labeled and ignored. Satan has done a tremendous job in making Christians look bad so the message of the cross will no longer be heard.

But there are things we know! There are things that build our faith and help us to stay focused and firm in the faith of Jesus Christ. Over the last couple of Sunday mornings we have discussed some of these, and we will continue to discuss them over the next couple of weeks. Child of God, there are some things you can know and be assured of, and that will build your faith.

We know that all things work together for good to those who love God (Romans 8:28).
We know him who is able to keep what is committed unto him against that day (2 Timothy 1:12-14)
We know that we know him if we keep his commandments (1 John 2:3-4)
We know that we are in him when we keep his word (1 John 2:5-6).
We know he abides in us, and we abide in Him (1 John 3:24; 4:13).
We know that when he is revealed, we will be like him (1 John 3:2-3).
We know that we have passed from death to life because we love the brethren (1 John 3:14), and we love the children of God when we love God and keep his commandments (1 John 5:2).
We know love because he laid down his life for us (1 John 3:16).
We know truth and we know him who is true (1 John 5:19-20)
We know that he hears our prayers (1 John 5:14-15).
