One of the most comforting thoughts found in God’s word is the fact that our God is a faithful God, and will be faithful even when we are not. Indeed, as one looks through Scripture you find that God’s faithfulness in keeping covenant and keeping promises make up a big part of who he is and encourages us as we find reasons to have faith in him.

Notice a few passages:

Deuteronomy 7:9 "Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments; NKJV

1 Corinthians 1:9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. NKJV

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. NKJV

2 Corinthians 1:18 But as God is faithful, our word to you was not Yes and No. NKJV

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it. NKJV

2 Thessalonians 3:3-4 But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one. NKJV

2 Timothy 2:11-13 For if we died with Him, We shall also live with Him. If we endure, We shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He also will deny us. If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself. NKJV

Hebrews 2:17 Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. NKJV

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. NKJV

Revelation 19:11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. NKJV

Lamentations 3:23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. NKJV

Romans 3:3 For what if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect? NKJV

Psalms 89 stresses the faithfulness of God to Israel, when Israel was not faithful to him. Even if we are not faithful, he is. He is faithful to those who serve him; he is faithful to keep his word, he is faithful to aid, succor and comfort those who emulate him and are faithful as well.

The one thing our God demands from us is faithfulness! He judges us by our faithfulness, and faithfulness involves much, much more than just attending services three times a week. It involves obedience to his commands, confession when we sin, and repentance when we err. Are we faithful? Aren’t you glad you serve a faithful God?
