I’m sick and tired of a world where lying is the norm! Why can’t people simply tell the truth? I know that the underlying principle of lying is self-advancement or self-protection, but lying degrades society and shows disrespect that borders on absolute contempt for that person who is lied to.

One study several years ago showed that the average American tells 200 lies per day. I’m not sure if the person who did the study was lying about his results, but I know people lie. It has become the norm in our society. One person said that the business world would collapse if everyone in it started telling the truth! You’ve experienced it, have you not? False advertising, inflated repair bills, broken appointments, and hundreds of other ways lying in the business world is manifested.

I’m sick of lying politicians. Don’t seek to tell me how great things are when there is a hidden agenda of political deals lurking in the background. Tell me the truth and let me deal with the facts. I am not a child who needs a big brother to hide reality from me. You have lied so much to me, that there is no way I can know political truth.

I’m sick of husbands and wives lying to each other, of parents and children lying to each other, and of the broken lives that come from dishonesty. Clandestine affairs are lies! Children manipulating parents with words are lies! Parental promises that are unkept are lies! Is there any pain any greater than discovering the one you loved most has been lying to you?

This much I know. Liars lie. When you see someone lying to another person, be assured that, given the right circumstances, the same person will lie to you. He who lies over small matters will lie over larger ones. Don’t ever trust anything a liar says to you. Remember, liars lie.

I know another thing about liars and that is they will spend eternity in hell. The scriptures say, "All liars will have their part in the lake of fire and brimstone" (Rev. 21:8). Business liars, political liars, and those who lie to family members fall under the wrath of God! Lying is no small matter. It is not a joking matter. It is not cute or clever. Lying may open the gates of hell to more people than any other one sin. Paul says, "Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor, for we are members of one another" (Eph. 4:25).

Liars fool others. They never fool God!
