And the Beat Goes On!

On the first day, a few students talked about supporting gay rights, and no one paid much attention.

On the second day, a school counselor talked about respecting each other, and no one paid much attention.

On the third day, a few students spoke against homosexuality and a teacher said it is “wrong according to the Bible” —and people noticed very much.

That final segment of a Miami Sunset Senior High television project roiled the normally placid West Dade campus, drew sharp response from both students and teachers and has raised questions about the free exchange of ideas and religion in public schools.

“It was one of those things you hear and say, ‘What are you doing putting that on school airwaves?’” said senior Christina Garcia de los Rios, 18, who is gay. “Those who are gay were very offended, saying it was an attack on their entire life.”

This is an excerpt of an article written by a reporter for the Miami Herald and posted on the internet at http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/living/education/14062839.htm concerning views presented by students and a teacher at Miami Sunset Senior High School. Listening to the audio of the presentation, the teacher emphasized that homosexuality was a sin in the eyes of God and that Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because of this particular sin.

I appreciate the stand taken by the teacher and the students who had the courage, and, I might add, the freedom to express their views by the rights under the Constitution of the United States. But you know as well as I do, this teacher will probably be reprimanded, fired or at the least have to attend “sensitivity classes” that emphasize that homosexuality is not wrong and should not be spoken again. And, the “heroes” in this will not be those who stood for TRUTH; it will be those who want all of us to adopt a “loving and tolerant” approach to this sin.

Christian Garcia de los Rios, who is gay, was offended at the remarks. But again, where is the concern for those who hate this sin as God hates this sin, and the “in your face” attitude expressed by gay right activists throughout this country. Are Christians offended at this sin anymore? Will we have the courage to speak out?

It doesn’t matter if the rest of the world supports, sanctions, loves and revels in this sin—it is still sin! And the reality is that the rest of the world would know this if we Christians, LOVINGLY, emphasized what it is!

I fear for our country and pray for her daily. Unless we stop this acceptance of any and every sin, from murder by abortion—to homosexuality—to rampant adultery—to materialism, God will judge this country and her people. Nations have been destroyed for less. Is God waiting for the sins of the Amorites to be full until He judges us?
