Glory to God in the Highest

“Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (Luke 2:14; NKJV)

We all recognize this statement, sung by the angels when Christ was born. The announcement to the shepherds included this hymn of praise to God at the birth of Jesus. All the prophets had foretold of this event. From Genesis 3, when man sinned, until the birth, life, death, burial, resurrection and ascension of Jesus, man had been without hope. All of the good deeds, all of the prayers, all of the penitence could not save one man. Someone had to die to take the place of man, and each man would have had to die to pay for his own sins. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice. It took his death to pay the penalty for sins.

Our life should be one of constant and continual praise to God. Yet, so often, we become so busy living that we forget why we are here (Ecclesiastes 12:13). How many times a day do we consider and thank God for all of the blessings He has given to us? Do we consider:

1. The blessings of creation and the ability to see, hear and enjoy the wonders of His creation?
2. The blessings of family and home?
3. The wisdom of those who are older?
4. The blessings of our job and the ability to make money?
5. The blessings of our shelter or our clothing and of our daily food?
6. The blessings of being members of the church for which our Lord died?
7. The blessing that came by hearing the gospel and the blessing of memory when we obeyed the gospel of Christ?
8. The wonder at being forgiven of our sins, even though we had not and have not done anything worthy of such?
9. The blessings that come from reading His word, from praying to Him and from weekly worship?
10. The blessings of friends?

The list could and should go on and on. If we were to sit and meditate on all of what God has done for us, would we not, should we not , sing “Glory to God in the Highest, and on earth, peace, good will toward men”?

Consider also the fact that were ALL men to praise and glorify God, would we not have peace on earth? Would not all wars come to an end? Even the wars fought over religion would come to an end, as we would all be united in glorifying the God of heaven and earth. A crazy dream? NO! A reality IF we would praise God daily ourselves, and let others know the one we thus serve.

Brethren and friends, let us all praise God daily!
