New Deacons Announced
FROM THE SHEPHERDS
It was with a great deal of joy that we announced six new deacons last Sunday. We are proud to have Don Cook, Eric Johnson, Frank Lindsey, Jon Stroud, Rob Stroud and Kyle Walker become deacons here at South Cobb. They join Clyde Carson, Al Gattis, Doug Pirtle and Larry Stubblefield. We have needed more deacons for a long time, and we are pleased with the work these men have been doing over past few years.
I Timothy 10:10 says, “And let these also first be proved; then let them serve as deacons, if they be blameless.” Paul wanted men who had proved that they would work for the Lord. These six men have proved that. Two of the men are older and have grown children, but they faithfully do all they can whenever they are called on. The other four are younger, have children at home, and are well grounded in the faith. They have all shown that they put God first in their lives.
On October 31, we are going to have our annual Harvest Dinner following the morning service. Following the meal, from 3–4 p.m. we will have a special prayer service. This hour will be totally devoted to scripture reading and prayer. This is the next to the last Sunday before the election. We encourage every member to come and join us in prayer for the church and our country in these perilous times. James tells us, “The effective prayers of a righteous man can accomplish much” (James 5:16).
We remind everyone to make plans now for the meeting on November 7–11 with Billy Watkins of Kimball, Tennessee. His subject will be “Lessons From The Old Testament; Our School Master.” Plan on being here for every lesson. This will be a literal spiritual feast. Many of you know Brother Watkins and his family from when he worked with Liberty Hill and we’re sure you will enjoy renewing old friendships.
