Marriage
Gen 2:18, 21-25 "And the LORD God said, 'It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.' . . . (21) And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. (22) Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. (23) And Adam said: 'This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.' (24) Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed."
In the above passage of Scripture we find God instituting the home and marriage. Jesus quoted from this passage in Matthew 19:1-9 when asked about divorce and why Moses allowed divorce from any reason. He went behind all the laws and thought concerning divorce and stated God’s will from the very beginning of time.
This passage has so much to do today with the current debate on “same sex marriages.” All across this land mayors and others are violating laws set up to preserve the sanctity of the home by issuing licenses to gay and lesbian couples who wish to wed. The agenda of the homosexual community is being pushed and shoved down Americans throats so much that many are afraid of a backlash. Could it be that we are in the midst of this backlash now?
God has made it as plain as black and white that homosexuality and lesbianism, as well as all sexual perversion is a sin. Numerous passages bring home this idea, such as Romans 1:18ff; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, and numerous passages in the Old Testament. We can think of no more abominable sin (with the exception of murder), yet even homosexuals, and sexual perverts can become Christians if they repent of their sins and obey the Lord’s commands. For this end we pray and work.
But there is something that is troubling, and we don’t know what the end result will eventually be. While it is the case that governments do encode laws dealing with morality (contrary to those who say “you cannot legislate morality”); should our government encode such a law banning same sex marriages?
On the face of it, we say YES! This is one stand that we as Christians should take, to let the world know where we stand forever. For far to long many have ignored God’s laws, and those laws based on the same, and instituted their own. Judicial activists have sought to rewrite constitutions on the federal and state level and done away with laws regarding morality and what is right and wrong. That is why our country is being torn asunder today.
On the other hand, we say no. Why? When the government begins to tell us what is right and wrong, we give to much power to that institution and not enough to God. God has said what constitutes a marriage from the very beginning of time, and no laws will ever change that. What will happen if America encodes such a law, and some judicial activist strikes the law down? Will we then be under their interpretation of what constitutes a marriage? I say no! I refuse! I owe it to the God I serve to follow HIS LAW and HIS way, not some man’s that contradicts that law.
Soon we will be able to vote on “same sex marriage” in Georgia. I will vote against such, because such is wrong, and does not constitute what God says marriage is. But if the law is overturned, let it be understood as well that I will continue to follow what God says about the matter — man notwithstanding! Will you join me?
