The Church of the Bible
The question of whether or not the church will stay with the Bible or go with the ways of the world is becoming more clear cut as every day progresses. Slowly but surely some refuse to wear the name church of Christ, thinking it is a “denominational title” they wish to shed. So, they opt for other names, such as “Christ’s church” or simply the “church.” LET IT BE CLEARLY UNDERSTOOD THAT THERE IS NO ONE BIBLICAL NAME FOR THE CHURCH, AND WE ARE NOT OPPOSED TO CALLING THE CHURCH BY ANY SCRIPTURAL NAME THAT THE BIBLE USES. What we do question is why many congregations are choosing to go this route at this time. It seems that those that are doing this wish to distant themselves in whatever way they can from the church of the Bible. Are these brethren really trying to do things Biblically, or are they wishing to do something different just to be different?
To some being “different” is more “spiritual”, and gives them a special feeling that they mistake as spirituality. While we must be different from the world, as this is what God has called us to do, we find that many of these brethren are becoming more and more like the denominations around them, and appeal to so many that believe that the church is nothing more than the one denomination among many. It is ironic that they are becoming more and more like the world, and different from the church that we read of in the New Testament!
For those who are trying to stay faithful to the Lord and His word, it is discouraging to see so many brethren buying into the devil’s lie. Yet, the Bible is clear that God’s word will not return unto Him void, but will accomplish exactly what He desires for it to accomplish (Isaiah 55:8-11). The question is — “Will we remain true to God and His word, or will we change to become more like the world?” Remember that God’s word is powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). Remember that the Bible is inspired of God (2 Timothy 3:16); and the gospel is THE (one and only) power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes (Romans 1:16). Can we go anywhere else and know for certain that what we are listening to is from God? Should we follow the majority just because it makes us feel good? These are some serious questions we need to honestly examine!
