Being Spiritually Minded

ROMANS 8:5-8 "For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God." (NKJV)

The crying need of the church today is for effective leaders, leading and shepherding God’s flock as they should. In like manner, another desperate need in the Lord’s church today is for spiritually minded Christians. In Romans 8:5-8 Paul helps us to see what being spiritually minded really is. However, let us notice what it is not:

BEING SPIRITUALLY MINDED IS NOT BEING ENTERTAINED BY THE THINGS OF THE WORLD. In fact, from the above passage, it is just the opposite.
BEING SPIRITUALLY MINDED DOES NOT WANT OUR OWN WAY. Again, this is living after the flesh and not according to the Spirit.

But:
BEING SPIRITUALLY MINDED IS A MATTER OF OUR MIND! It is a choice we make. We are what we think!

BEING SPIRITUALLY MINDED (OR NOT) DEPENDS ON WHAT WE FEED OUR MIND! If we feed upon the word of God daily, we will grow and be what God wants us to be. Otherwise we won’t. Can you see another alternative?

BEING SPIRITUALLY MINDED MEANS BEING MORE AND MORE LIKE GOD. We should never be afraid of being like God, and, in like manner, it should not scare us in renewing our mind.

Paul puts it this way:
MIND + FLESH = DEATH
MIND + SPIRIT = LIFE and PEACE

Which one describes your life? Do you want more spirituality? What are you feasting on?
