Where Will You Be 100 Years from Now?

God’s word stresses that for the Christian what is important is not the here and now, but the eternal. We are to “. . . look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:18) We live our lives with a view to eternity.

Life has a tendency, however, to cause us to focus on the here and now. How often do we go to bed worried about problems, whether financial, health, emotional or otherwise? It is so easy to fall into Satan’s trap and forget about what is really important — our souls.

So, the question still stands — where will you be 100 years from now? Will you be in heaven, or in hell? Will you have an eternity to remember the opportunities you had to become a Christian? Will you remember, throughout eternity, the fact that you were a nominal Christian? Will you regret the opportunities God gave you to set the example for your friends and neighbors, and didn’t? What about the opportunities to teach someone else the gospel?

And what about your family? What will they remember about you? Will they remember the bad times more than the good times? Will they look at you, after you are gone, and and remember how you tried to live the Christian life? Will they remember that you loved the Word of God and studied it? Will they remember your prayers for them? Or will they remember a life talked about but not lived?

As we look at the church at South Cobb, we must ask — what are we here for? Of course we know that we must teach the Word of God. But how well are we doing it, publicly and privately? Are our children hearing the soul stirring, soul saving message of the cross? Do we show the example toward them that they need to SEE? Is Christ and His church important to us, and do they see that daily?

Why do we lose so many of our young people —further, why do we lose so many of those we have taught and immersed? These questions confound us and plague us daily. What more can we do?

With some we cannot do anything — they did not understand the gospel, or the cost of being a Christian. Others allow the cares of this world to get in their way, and as a result, they allow Jesus, His church and His gospel to be choked out. They have not sought the things which are above, they have lost their focus on eternity.

Perhaps the solution is to remind ALL OF US that this life is not all there is! WHERE WILL YOU BE 100 YEARS FROM NOW?
