IN NEED OF PRAYER
•BARRY BROADWAY was diagnosed with lymphoma and a type of leukemia. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
•TIFFANY BUICE will have a bone scan next Tuesday. She has suffered some falls recently.
•MANSEL CARPENTER, a well known gospel preacher in this area (having preached at Liberty Hill and Clarkdale) has been diagnosed with cancer.
•EDDIE GOUGH, son of Francis Gough, has been diagnosed with cancer. He has a tumor on his thymus gland and another in his back.
•CODY HESTER, a friend of the Fincher’s, has been diagnosed with leukemia. Treatments have started and he seems to be improving.
•JIMMIE HILL, preacher and member of the New Hope Road Church of Christ, has been diagnosed with cancer.
•LINDA JAMES, sister of Susan Jackson, had surgery recently and doctors were able to remove a tumor, but she will have to undergo some chemotherapy to make sure they removed all of the cancer.
•JUDY KING is undergoing numerous tests at this time for many medical and health problems. Doctors have found a tumor on her thyroid, and she is scheduled for surgery on September 2 at Kennestone Hospital.
•BRUCE LEFEVER, a friend of Jerry Anderson, had a stroke and is paralyzed on his right side, and cannot speak.
•EVA LOU SATTERFIELD is still struggling with health problems stemming from her recent stroke.
•PAT SCHINALL, friend of Margie Gattis, is awaiting a liver transplant.
•ABBY SMITH, the 3-year-old daughter of friends of Michael and Nancy Walker, has a brain tumor and another tumor on her spine that is inoperable.
•CHRIS STROUD has been in the Douglas County Jail for the past few weeks and is in need of the prayers of the congregation and letters of encouragement. His address is: William Chris Stroud, Douglas County Jail, Annex Dorm D Bed 5, 6840 West Church St., Douglasville, GA 30134.
•JONATHAN & TAMI STROUD are expecting their forth child in March.
•JEAN STUBBLEFIELD, sister-in-law of Jackie Stubblefield and aunt to Larry and Jennie, is unable to get a kidney transplant, but is doing well lately.
•DAWN STUBBLEFIELD has Graves’ Disease. She has opted to take the medicinal treatment at this time.
•LARRY STUBBLEFIELD is recovering from surgery and undergoing physical therapy. He had much scarring and a frozen shoulder (a condition characterized by pain and loss of motion or stiffness), but is doing better.
•Janea Toms, who attended here last summer while visiting her son and daughter in law, has asked that we remember her daughter-in-law’s parents in our prayers. They are in the Ukraine near the war between Russia and Georgia.
•CHRISTIE LAYNE TORRES, cousin of Larry King, Joy Freeman and Sue King, has a tumor behind her eyes and nose, that is leaking spinal fluid in her brain. She is doing better recently and the family appreciates the prayers of the congregation.
•Remember in prayers the family of Rex Turner Jr., president of Amridge University in Montgomery, Ala. He passed away Tuesday from a blood clot after having had a tumor in his brain removed.
•Please remember to pray for those who have lost jobs recently. ROB EGERTON, Joy’s husband, has lost his job and is searching for a job at this time, as is LARHEASA TIDWELL.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

•All Bible school students should be promoted to their new grade this morning. We are currently in need of a Sunday first/second grade teacher. See Jonathan Stroud if you are able to serve.
•When Noah loaded the ark, the animals came two by two. The State of Georgia is asking Georgia AGAPE to provide shelter similarly by placing sibling groups together in foster homes. It is suggested that children who come into foster care adjust better when they can remain with siblings. AGAPE will be conducting 3 weekends of training classes shortly after school starts to prepare families who can help by foster parenting sibling groups. Please call Jayne Osburn at 770-452-9995 before September 1 for more information on this training.
•Dorsey Prince will be celebrating his ninetieth birthday on August 26. His family had planned a party for him, but because of health issues, it will not be held. So, if we can “shower him” with birthday cards and little memories of how much he has meant to you and this congregation, it would be appreciated.
•The Ladies’ Morning Bible Class is on break for the summer and will resume in September.
•There will be a baby shower brunch for Dodie Tidwell Saturday, Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. Her nursery theme is “B is for Bear.” She is registered at Target, Babies"R"Us and Wal-Mart. Please see Cynthia Tidwell or Lexann Johnson for more information.
•When planning an event for the congregation, please record it on the planning calendar in the foyer. If your event conflicts with another, please see one of the deacons.
BENEVOLENCE
•Our congregation is participating in Georgia AGAPE’S “Change for Children Campaign” as an additional way to support this worthy organization that is doing so much for children. Change cans are available in the foyer—we hope that you will take one of the cans and save your change to help support these needy children. Be sure to put your name and address on one of the slips of paper provided and put it in the can. All the cans will be collected by Sunday, September 14.
•Please bring canned vegetables to help restock the pantry and prepare for the children’s home truck that will be coming again in September.
•The Children’s home truck that will be here September 8. Pressing needs are: ALL BABY ITEMS IN GOOD CLEAN USUABLE CONDITION. They need baby beds, sheets, humidifiers, diapers (all sizes) diaper bags, wipes, lotions, powder; glider rocking chairs, clothes, sippy cups; infant spoons, baby shampoo, towel/wash cloth sets car, seats, infant Tylenol/motrin, Johnny jumpers, assorted pre-sweetened cereals, Vienna sausage, garbage bags (30-33 gals) liquid laundry detergents, dishwashing detergent, clear air fresheners, mayo, canned fruit drinks (apple, grape, punch, orange) afro-american hair products, paper cups, bbq sauces, tampons, and school needs – book covers, variety of sized 3 ring binders , and small pocket dictionaries. BADLY NEEDED ITEMS are Canned fruit drinks and paper towels/toilet tissue.
SOUTH COBB EVENTS
•The theme for this year’s Summer Series is “The Church.” The schedule is as follows:

•Aug. 17 — Fellowship Meal
The meal will follow this evening’s service in the fellowship hall.
•Aug. 22 — Friday Night Fellowship
There will be an “end of summer” get together at Thompson Park. A sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board in the foyer.
•Sept. 5 — Ladies’ Night
All of the ladies at South Cobb are invited to spend an evening of fellowship together in the fellowship hall. The menu will be salads and light desserts.
•Sept. 5–6 — Men’s Retreat
The annual South Cobb Men’s Retreat will be held at Camp Inagehi. There is a sign up sheet in the foyer.
•Sept. 14 — Meet with the Elders
All women are invited to meet with the elders at 4 p.m. at the building to ask questions or express any concerns regarding the work at South Cobb.
•Oct. 3–4 — Women’s Retreat
Save the date for a women’s retreat at Camp Inagehi. Plans and discussion for the retreat will be made at the Ladies’ Night event on September 5. Suggestions and comments can be given to LaRheasa Tidwell, Ann Stroud or Glenda Shipp.
•Oct. 12 — Meet with the Elders
