Announcements – August 15, 2008

SICK AND IN NEED OF PRAYERS
•BARRY BROADWAY was diagnosed with lymphoma, and a type of leukemia. His last CT scan showed no cancer, and he will have one more chemo treatment, and the doctors will monitor him after that!
•TIFFANY BUICE will have a bone scan next Tuesday, but continues to fall.
•MANSEL CARPENTER, a well known gospel preacher in this area (having preached at Liberty Hill and Clarkdale) has been diagnosed with cancer.
•EDDIE GOUGH, son of Francis Gough, has been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor on his thymus gland and one in his back.
•CODY HESTER, a friend of the Fincher’s, has been diagnosed with leukemia. Treatments have started and he seems to be some better!
•JIMMIE HILL, preacher and member of the New Hope Road Church of Christ, has been diagnosed with cancer.
•LINDA JAMES, sister of Susan Jackson, has been diagnosed with recurring cancer. Doctors were able to remove the tumor, but she will have to undergo some chemotherapy to make sure they have it all.
•JUDY KING has thyroid problems, and doctors have found a tumor on her thyroid. She is scheduled for surgery on September 2 at Kennestone Hospital.
•BRUCE LEFEVER, a friend of Jerry Anderson, had a stroke and is paralyzed on his right side, and cannot speak. He is doing some better at this time.
•EVA LOU SATTERFIELD continues to struggle at home with her problems stemming from a stroke.
•PAT SCHINALL, friend of Margie Gattis, is awaiting a liver transplant.
•ABBY SMITH, 3 year old friend of Michael and Nancy Walker, has a brain tumor and a tumor in her spine that is inoperable. She went to the doctors last week and they have found no new growth.
•JON AND TAMI STROUD are expecting their fourth child in March.
•CHRIS STROUD is in need of our constant and continued prayers, as he is in the Douglas County Jail. His address is William Chris Stroud, Douglas County Jail, Annex Dorm D Bed 5 6840 West Church Street, Douglasville, GA 30134.
•JEAN STUBBLEFIELD, sister in law to Jackie Stubblefield and aunt to Larry and Jennie, is unable to get the kidney transplant, but is doing well at this time.
•DAWN STUBBLEFIELD has Graves Disease. She has opted to take the medicinal treatment at this time.
•LARRY STUBBLEFIELD is undergoing physical therapy to help with a frozen shoulder, and is doing better at this time.
•CHRISTIE LAYNE TORRES, Larry King’s cousin (as well as Joy Freeman and Sue King) has a tumor behind her eyes and nose, and is leaking spinal fluid in her brain. She is doing better at this time and thanks everyone for their prayers.
•SOPHIE WALKER was running a 1010 fever Wednesday, and Nancy was not feeling well either.

OTHER PRAYER REQUESTS!
•Remember in prayers the family of REX TURNER JR. President of Amridge University in Montgomery, AL. He passed away Tuesday from a blood clot after having had a tumor in his brain removed.
•JANAE TOMS, who attended here last Summer while visiting her son and daughter in law, has asked that we remember her daughter in laws parents in our prayers. They are in the Ukraine near the war between Russia and Georgia.
•Please remember to pray for those who have lost jobs recently. ROB EGERTON, Joy’s husband, has lost his job and is searching for a job at this time, as is LARHEASA TIDWELL.

•Our 4- 6th Grade class is collecting items for our military. The box is in the foyer in the back – please stop by the box and see what they need, and help out in giving some goodies from home for our service people overseas.

SOUTH COBB NEWS
•PEARL SWEENEY has moved to Savannah, GA. Her new address is 5200 Habersham St #207, Savannah, GA 31405.
•On August 3 and 10 we will be taking pictures and reshoots of those whose picture on the bulletin board is not quite right. Please be prepared to get your picture remade at these times. For more information please see Nancy Walker, Glenda Shipp or Chris Tidwell.
•AUGUST 17 – FELLOWSHIP MEAL AFTER SERVICES SUNDAY EVENING!
•AUGUST 22 – FRIDAY NIGHT FELLOWSHIP at Thompson Park. This is an “end of summer” get together – sign up sheet is on the bulletin board in the back.
•AUGUST 23 – BABY BRUNCH in honor of Dodie Tidwell and baby. Time 10:00 AM in the fellowship hall. Her nursery theme is “B is for Bear.” She is registered at Target, Babies “R” Us and Walmart. Please see Lexann Johnson for more info.
•Dorsey Prince will be celebrating his 90th birthday on August 26th. His family had planned a party for him, but because of health issues that will not be held. SO, if we can “shower him” with birthday cards and little memories of how he has meant so much to you and this congregation, this will be appreciated.
•PRAY FOR RAIN; PRAY FOR THOSE WHO HAVE LOST SOME JOBS RECENTLY; PRAY FOR OUR COUNTRY AND THE UPCOMING ELECTION; PRAY FOR OUR MILITARY; PRAY THAT THE CHURCH REALIZE HER RESPONSIBLITIES AND PREACH TO THE WORLD; PRAY THAT EACH OF US BE KINDER, HONEST AND VICTORS IN THE DAILY FIGHTS THAT WE FACE! PRAY! PRAY! PRAY!
•Our congregation is participating in Georgia AGAPE’S “Change for Children Campaign” as an additional way to support this worthy organization that is doing so much for children. Change cans are available in the foyer – we hope that you will take one of the cans and save your change to help benefit these needy children. Be sure to put your name and address on one of the slips of paper provided, and put it in the can. We will have all the cans collected by SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 14.
•PANTRY – please bring some canned vegetables to help restock our pantry.
•The Children’s home truck that will be here September 8. Pressing needs are: ALL BABY ITEMS IN GOOD CLEAN USUABLE CONDITION. They need baby beds, sheets, humidifiers, diapers (all sizes) diaper bags, wipes, lotions, powder; glider rocking chairs, clothes, sippy cups; infant spoons, baby shampoo, towel/wash cloth sets car, seats, infant Tylenol/motrin, Johnny jumpers, assorted pre-sweetened cereals, Vienna sausage, garbage bags (30-33 gals) liquid laundry detergents, dishwashing detergent, clr air fresheners, mayo, canned fruit drinks (apple, grape, punch, orange) afro-american hair products, paper cups, bbq sauces, tampons, and school needs – book covers, variety of sized 3 ring binders , and small pocket dictionaries. BADLY NEEDED ITEMS are Canned fruit drinks and paper towels/toilet tissue.
•September 5 – LADIES NIGHT at the South Cobb Church of Christ! Menu will be salads and light desserts.
•All ladies save October 3/4 for a women's retreat at Camp Inagehi. More plans and discussion for it will be made at the ladies night in September. Suggestions/comments can be given to Glenda, LaRheasa or Ann until then.
•SIGN UP SHEETS are on the bulletin board in the back for Friday Night Fellowship at Thompson Park; for the workers at the fair, and for the men’s retreat September 5-6.

•November 7-9 Youth Lectureship at the Lithia Springs Church of Christ.
•GEORGIA AGAPE When Noah loaded the ark, the animals came two by two. The State of Georgia is asking Georgia AGAPE to provide shelter similarly by placing sibling groups together in foster homes. It is suggested that children who come into foster care adjust better when they can remain with siblings. AGAPE will be conducting 3 weekends of training classes shortly after school starts to prepare families who can help by foster parenting sibling groups. Please call Jayne Osburn at 770-452-9995 before September 1 for more information on this training.
