Announcements – January 6, 2008

OUR SICK
•JANE BAXTER, Charles Shipp’s sister, is now at home in hospice care and she is so weak that doctors have only given her another week to live.
•AVIS BERRY, Celeste Peter’s great grandmother, is in hospice and is not expected to live much longer.
•GRAY BURCH, Willa Freeman’s father, has gallbladder problems, but doctors cannot do gallbladder surgery.
•ALECIA DAVIS, daughter of Marvalene Philpott, has been admitted to the Baptist Health Center in Columbia, SC. She is not doing well at this time, and is close to death. Let’s remember this family in our prayers fervently at this time.
•FRANK ESTES, Peggy’s husband, has some neurological problems. He has a pinched nerve that is affecting his walking, and may have to have surgery. He is taking therapy at this time.
•DOROTHY FOWLER, Susan Jackson’s cousin, is now in hospice. Doctors have told her that they have done all they can to defeat the cancer.
•EDDIE GOUGH, son of Francis Gough, has been diagnosed with cancer. Doctors are continuing to run tests at this time.
•GAIL HOLBROOK continues her struggles with rheumatoid arthritis. This is affecting her organs, and is why she stays sick with bronchitis and other problems. She is still in need of our prayers.
•DAVID LUTZ, brother of Jackie Stubblefield, has been diagnosed with cancer in his bones, lungs, lymph nodes and over his body. He is having trouble with his chemotherapy. Let’s remember him in our prayers.
•THELMA PIRTLE is due to have reconstructive hip surgery on Monday, January 7th. Let’s remember her and the doctors in our prayers.
•PAT SCHINALL, friend of Margie Gattis, is awaiting a liver transplant. Margie asks for our prayers on her behalf.
•ABBY SMITH, 3 year old friend of Michael and Nancy Walker, has a brain tumor and a tumor in her spine that is inoperable. Michael and Nancy requests prayers in her behalf.
• CATHERINE STIGER, one of the twins born to MIKE AND BETH STIGER (brother and sister in law of Susan Stroud), had heart surgery on December 20th. Doctors had to do surgery on her twice, but she is doing as well as she can now. She is holding her own, and is in need of our prayers. Emily Elizabeth is now at home.
•JEAN STUBBLEFIELD, sister in law to Jackie Stubblefield and aunt to Larry and Jennie, needs a kidney transplant to be able to survive.
•IVADELL TAYLOR is now back at home after spending time in Piedmont Hospital after having had a stroke in her brain stem. We need to remember her and Gail in our prayers.
•GAIL WALDEN, the cousin of Glenda Shipp, is now at home after having been admitted to Cobb Hospital Christmas Eve for throwing up blood.

SYMPATHY
We extend sympathy to BETTY SINGLETON and SHERON KEITH in the loss of their mother in Coco Beach FL. last week. Let’s remember them in our prayers.
We also extend sympathy to the family of MARVALENE PHILPOTT, who passed away January 2. Her funeral will be held at the South Cobb Church of Christ at 11:00 AM Saturday morning.

•The congregation has been asked to write letters of encouragement to a group of soldiers serving in the U.S. Army. •Our 4- 6th Grade class is collecting items for our military. The box is in the foyer in the back – please stop by the box and see what they need, and help out in giving some goodies from home for our service people overseas.

SOUTH COBB NEWS
•Ladies Bible Class – The ladies will continue at 10:30 AM each Tuesday beginning again January 8th.
•There is a weight loss support group meeting every Tuesday here at the building at 9:45 AM. The ladies meet in the Ladies Bible class room to encourage one another in their weight loss goals.
•JANUARY 10 – Seniors Luncheon at the building.
•We encourage everyone to attend SUNDAY NIGHT FOR THE SAVIOR. This was formerly Monday Night for the Master, and, in an effort to get more people involved, we will be meeting at 5:30PM on the 2nd and 4th Sunday nights of the month. The next meeting will be January 13th. Come and help us as we visit and strive to do the work of the Lord.
•Mike and Carmen McFarland request the pleasure of your company at a dessert reception celebrating the marriage of their daughter APRIL LEE to MARK ESTES Sunday, January 13th from 2 – 5 PM at the Newnan Church of Christ, 2675 East Highway 34, Newnan, GA. Mark and April will be getting married in a private ceremony with their families December 22nd.

•West Cobb Christian Academy’s BRAINAMANIA fundraiser is here! Show up on Saturday, January 26th, At the Macland Road church of Christ. Pay $10 per player. That includes your dinner (from 5-6 p.m). Tournament begins at 6 p.m. Help support Christian education in your community. Visit westcobbchristian.org for more info or see your events board.

•Feb 8 – Youth Night at the Hawks. Please let Jon Stroud know if you wish to go.
•Feb 22-24, 2008. CHALLENGE YOUTH CONFERENCE in Gatlinburg, TN. South Cobb will attend with the Macland Road Youth Group. The cost for this trip will be $80.00. Please see Jon Stroud and give him the money by ASAP.
