Financial Seminar
May 13th - 14th
The total amount of consumer debt in the United States stands at nearly $2.4 trillion. Based on the 2010 Census statistics, that works out to be nearly $7,800 in debt for every man, woman and child that lives here in the U.S. This does not include debt associated with mortgages. Consumers spend roughly 12% of their disposable, after tax, income to pay off mortgage obligations and consumer debt such as automobile and personal loans. Over 40% of US families spend more than they earn.
The stats could go on and on. The reality is that many Americans, many Georgians, many Cobb County residents, maybe many in our assembly this morning, are in financial trouble. The reasons could be many--lost job due to economic recession, unexpected & unavoidable large bills, or simply not controlling their spending--but the answers seem few. I believe the answer to our financial problems can be found in the same place we find answers to every other question in our lives--the words of our God given to us in the Bible. We will spend the weekend of May 13th & 14th discussing what the Bible says about our finances--our income, our spending, our debt, and maybe most importantly, our attitudes related to those issues. The New Testament, not surprisingly, talks a lot about our attitudes toward money.
We will discuss how we ended up in the place we now find ourselves--whether good or bad. We will also discuss some practical ways we can get from where we are to where we want to be financially, including coming up with and sticking to a budget, learning to develop good spending habits, and learning how to become content. We are also going to look at some lessons that we as parents should be teaching our children. Money is no different than everything else in their lives. They are getting information from and influenced by the world around them. Our young people need to learn Christian principals related to money and see those principals lived in their parents at home.
We hope you will join us for this weekend. We pray that God will use this seminar for his glory. We will not be selling anything. We will not tell you how to become a millionaire in 2 months or 2 years. We will look at God's word and see what it has to say to us. What need have we to look anywhere else?
